National Retail Association Chief Executive Officer Trevor Evans has praised former NRA Chairman Bernie Brookes for his longstanding contribution to the retail industry.
Mr Brookes stepped down from his role as chief executive of Myer today, after nearly a decade of service.
“Mr Brookes earned a reputation for being a visionary in the field, which was only strengthened when he led the private equity merger of Myer when it was part of the struggling Coles Myer group and then floated it on the stock exchange in 2009 in a $2.8 billion IPO.”
“He made a substantial contribution to the retail sector throughout his long career, and we will be forever grateful for the knowledge, experience and spirit he was able to bring to his role here at the helm of the NRA, before he began his tenure at Myer,” Mr Evans said.
“We would also like to congratulate former Australia Post executive Richard Umbers who will have big shoes to fill in taking Brookes’ place, as he begins a strategic review of the retailer to improve its operational performance.
The NRA is Australia’s largest and most diverse retail industry organisation, and has been representing the interests of the retail, fast food and broader service sector for almost 100 years.
